- Dave,
-
- Actually, I did compose a response to your link and forwarded it to Howard for
- his reaction BEFORE sending it on to MacApp.TECH$. (He has not reacted,
- something about a project deadline SOooo… I will react here.)
-
- Your latest idea concerning using AppleLink as a meeting ground and
- coordinating space is a good one. We plan on doing something like what you are
- proposing on the FUTURE MADA BBS that we will be setting up in March. Will you
- consider it as an alternative to AppleLink? (Which reminds me anyone out there
- have a spare PLUS,SE or MacII they want to contribute to a non-profit
- organization?)
-
- I’d also like to invite all interested parties to the MADA conference (FEB 5-9
- in SanDiego) to discuss Dave’s idea along with other ideas concerning libraries
- and enhancements to MacApp (done either online or offline).
-
- I’d like to go offline with further discussion concerning this matter and some
- reactions to the details of Dave’s suggestion:
-
- MADA is the organization to coodinate what you want to have occur. Would you
- like to volunteer to set it up and maintain it for the first 6 months of
- operation? (I will offer you a FREE AppleLink Account to do it!)
-
- I do not take kindly to the thought that MADA is the last resort for libraries
- that no one else wants. Have I been missing something? Talk to me.
-
- We do not BUY libraries, we redistribute other programmers work as well
- examples and materials our members will find useful in their work with MacApp.
- If you want to receive something for your efforts, we will offer you
- compensation. If you would like us to publish your subclass of TTEView we will
- gladly consider your library for publication in a form you feel comfortable
- with and that our membership will find useful.
-
- Some thoughts:
- 1. Not everyone is on AppleLink (or bix, compuserve, genie, ETC…)
- Although AppleLink does have THE collection of active and motivated
- people.
-
- 2. An AppleLink archive is a good start, but us AppleLinkers represent a
- small and ‘UNIQUE’ group. It has been my experience that there are
- many more ‘People’ (at least 3 to 4 times as many) who want packaged
- (brown bag) goods not just an opportunity to raid an AppleLink Archive.
- I view AppleLink as part of a spectrum of communications media
- necessary to reach as many interested parties as possible.
-
- 3. Again it has been my experience that those who ‘want to be involved’ in
- a project the way you are proposing are also a minority of those using
- MacApp. BUT I have noted that a large number of people will improve,
- enhance and better something once it is put forth. What you are
- proposing is a good way to do this. I think you may find the level of
- effort to accomplish what you want is far in excess of what I perceive
- someone is usually willing to do. Let’s give it a try.
-
- We provide the mailers, disk dup, documentation prep, production and some
- limited coordination of volunteers so that there is a place where people can
- call when they have a question and want a warm body to talk to (try dialing
- [206] 252-6946 and asking the status of MacApp, your membership or any of our
- products [even certain APDA/MacApp products]). You can even call for help and
- get a referal. (If you want to volunteer we will take your name)
